| Seth Thomas was born in 1785 in a town called Wolcott, CT. He began his career in the clock business when he was 22 years old when he started working for Eli Terry in 1807. Thomas purchased the clock business from Eli Terry in 1810 but two years later he sold it so he could move to Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut and open a new metal-movement clockmaking business. The Seth Thomas brand has been a respected name since those first metal-movement clocks were sold in 1813. After Thomas' death, Plymouth Hollow renamed itself "Thomaston" in his honor in 1875. |
