Seth Thomas - Some interesting facts
|
| Seth Thomas was born in Wolcott, Connecticut, in 1785. He started in the clock business in 1807, working for clockmaker Eli Terry. In 1810 Seth Thomas purchased the business from Eli Terry only to sell it in 1817 so he could start a business that made metal-movement clocks in Plymouth Hollow, CT. Soon after the first clock with the Seth Thomas brand was sold. After Thomas' death, Plymouth Hollow renamed itself "Thomaston" in his honor in 1875. |
