Seth Thomas Facts - A little bit of the history

Seth Thomas started in the clock business working for Eli Terry in 1807 when he was 22 years old. Seth Thomas ended up buying Eli's clock business in 1810 but then later sold it and relocated to Plymouth Hollow, CT to start a metal-movement clockmaking business. It is believed that the first Seth Thomas clocks were sold in 1813. Thomas died in 1859 and the town of Plymouth Hollow later changed its name to "Thomaston" in his honor.
