| Seth Thomas started in the clock business working for Eli Terry in 1807 when he was 22 years old. In 1810 Seth Thomas purchased the business from Eli Terry only to sell it in 1817 so he could start a business that made metal-movement clocks in Plymouth Hollow, CT. The Seth Thomas brand has been a respected name since those first metal-movement clocks were sold in 1813. Thomas died in 1859 and the town of Plymouth Hollow later changed its name to "Thomaston" in his honor. |
