Seth Thomas - Some interesting facts
|
| Seth Thomas was born in Wolcott, Connecticut, in 1785. He started in the clock business in 1807, working for clockmaker Eli Terry. Thomas purchased the clock business from Eli Terry in 1810 but two years later he sold it so he could move to Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut and open a new metal-movement clockmaking business. It is believed that the first Seth Thomas clocks were sold in 1813. After Thomas' death, Plymouth Hollow renamed itself "Thomaston" in his honor in 1875. |
