Seth Thomas - Some interesting facts
|
| Seth Thomas was born in Wolcott, Connecticut, in 1785. He started in the clock business in 1807, working for clockmaker Eli Terry. Thomas purchased the clock business from Eli Terry in 1810 but two years later he sold it so he could move to Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut and open a new metal-movement clockmaking business. The first metal-movement clocks bearing the Seth Thomas name were sold in 1813. Thomas died in 1859 and the town of Plymouth Hollow later changed its name to "Thomaston" in his honor. |
